Fun for all the family at Central Library this October

Central Library

Friday, 6 October 2017

Poetry, an arts workshop and folk tales will light up Central Library during October as part of a series of events to be held at the popular literary hub.

On Tuesday (10 Oct) Swindon Libraries and Prime Theatre present The Tangle Company production of ‘No One Is An Island’ at the Regent Circus library. The production is a collection of renaissance and contemporary poetry combined and adapted for performance by Tangle Company 2017.

A performance in two parts, part one explores the human imagination and ambition of the renaissance man, while part two is a poetic exploration of the current political turbulence. Both parts are described as being rhythmically woven together including a capella singing to form two powerful original pieces.

The performance, which takes place between 7pm and 8pm, is free but seating is limited. To book a place call 01793 466454 or book via Eventbrite: http://tinyurl.com/y9zmccnf

The following Sunday (15 Oct), the library will be hosting a free family arts workshop courtesy of No Added Sugar and Swindon Libraries.

The workshop has been organised as part of the Celebrate Childhood Weekend and will take place between 11am and 3pm. The session will involve three different stations families can visit all day long. With Spin Art, Clay Faces and Felting.

All materials are included and it’s all free. Those taking part are advised to dress in old clothes, especially small children.

There is no need to book as the session is a drop-in event for all the family. Children attending should be accompanied by an adult. For more details contact the Library on 01793 463238.

Later on in the month, Central Library will be hosting a special Halloween treat in the form of traditional folk tales and song with a post-apocalyptic twist.

Brighid’s Flame is a performance which will describe the experiences of a raggedy young survivor on the run in a wasteland. This brand new show for 2017 goes into darker territory – warping Irish mythology into Post-apocalyptic Myth-Punk. For adults and older children.

Taking place on Tuesday, 31 October, between 6.30pm and 8pm, Brighid’s Flame costs £6 (£5 concessions and library members). Tickets include a complementary glass of wine (or juice). Tickets are available from the Central Library or by calling 01793 466454.
